Hotel timeline
A place steeped in history
This cultural asset of the city of Salzburg has been lovingly renovated to retain its absolute exclusivity and luxurious standard while at the same time losing none of the flair that makes this historic place so unique.
Anno 1619
Archbishop Paris Lodron
The foundation stone of what is now the Hôtel Bristol was laid by Archbishop Paris Lodron in 1619. In the centuries that followed, the building served as the seat of various noble families. It was extended and remodelled several times before becoming a hotel in the late 19th century.
Anno 1892
The first hotel to have electricity
In 1892, the city of Salzburg, which had in the meantime taken possession of the property, opened the first hotel to have electricity in the City of Mozart, naming it the “Electric Hotel”. The hotel’s electrical system also supplied a large part of the right-hand side of the Old Town.
The name „Hôtel Bristol“
dates from 1903. The hotel takes its name from the British city of Bristol, where travellers were first provided withaccommodation for a fee.
A fourth-generation
family business
Around 75 years ago, the hotel came into the possession of the Hübner family, who still run it today. Now a fourth-generation family business, it is one of the few privately managed hotels in Salzburg.
