Mozart's Residence

Opposite the hotel is the residence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The house was known as the "Tanzmeisterhaus" in the 18th century. Here dance classes were held for the nobility, preparing the young nobles for court life. The former dancing master Franz Gottlieb Speckner was the best man at W.A. Mozart's parents’ wedding in1747. When F.G. Speckner died in 1767 and the heiress was open to the letting of the premises, the Mozart family took the opportunity to move to this bigger apartment in 1773. Mozart lived here until his move to Vienna in 1781. Today the house and its various exhibitions can be viewed. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – the most famous son of Salzburg
